If you need shelter:

Individual adults  in need of temporary shelter may call 2-1-1 and they will direct you to a shelter in your area.  You can also find contact info for shelters via our online map, in our Street Sheets, or in our Shelter Guide

If you are a victim of domestic violence, please call 1-800-494-8100.

Families with children in need of temporary shelter must call 2-1-1 to access family shelter.  2-1-1 staff will conduct an assessment and place your name and information on a shelter waitlist.  When family shelters have openings, a staff member from the shelter will contact you.  2-1-1 staff can also tell you what shelters may be able to host your family in a common area for the night.

If you are a renter at risk of losing your housing:

Funding and assistance may be available.  Contact your local CAP Agency to speak with an advisor about which programs are best for you.  For an online overview of housing and utility assistance programs view the Economic Progress Institute's Guide to Government Assistance Programs

If you are a homeowner in financial trouble or at risk of foreclosure:

Help is available.  The sooner you call, the more options you will have. Call the Rhode Island Housing Help Center at 457-1130.  They will provide education and advice on your options.
